Free walking tour in Prague: FAQs

1

What is a Prague free walking tour?

A free walking tour in Prague is a tip-based guided city tour - there’s no upfront payment. At the end of the tour, your guide asks you to value your experience, and you decide what you think is a fair price.

2

What forms of payment do we accept?

You can pay with card or cash! We accept Czech crowns and Euros (although we ask you to refrain from Euro coins, as we cannot exchange them).

3

How long is each tour and what is covered?

Each free tour lasts roughly 2.5 hours. There is a break for coffee, snacks, and to use the bathroom.

4

Will the weather affect the tour?

Our Prague free walking tours run in rain, wind, or shine. Dress for the weather! Prague can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer.

*If we have to cancel a tour in very exceptional extreme weather, we will let you know.

5

Are strollers, wheelchairs, or pets allowed on the free tour?

Yes, everyone is welcome on our Prague free walking tours! Prague is not the easiest city for wheelchair users, but our guides will always help you where necessary.

6

Where do the tours start?

Meeting points are central. Our meeting point for the Iconic Old Town Tour is on the main shopping street called Na Přikopé, next to the Zara – this is a few minutes walking from both Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square. Our meeting point for the Free Prague Castle Tour is on Jan Palach Square, next to the Josef Manes statue. Find us under the purple umbrellas!

7

Can we join the tour if we're running late?

Our guides will remain at the meeting point for 5 minutes after the start time. After this, each guide takes a different route and is not contactable during the tour. We ask latecomers to please reschedule your Prague free walking tour for another time slot.

8

Are free tours suitable for large groups?

Free walking tours are designed for small group bookings. We ask groups of 9+ to either book a private tour or join our free tour with an upfront payment for the guide. These rules are in place with all companies that run free tours.

9

Can you see Prague Castle on the free tour?

We have two different free tours: the Castle Free Tour and the Iconic Old Town Tour. The free tour of the castle runs at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. every day. Many people book two tours for the same day or trip.

10

Which is the best tour to do on the first day?

For the ideal experience, we recommend you take the Iconic Free Tour on your first day and then follow up with the Prague Castle tour in the afternoon or next day. The Iconic Free Tour of Prague covers the major landmarks of the city – from Old Town Square to the famous synagogues of the Jewish Quarter. However, the Prague Castle and its history are important enough to warrant its own tour.

Beyond the crowd on a Prague free walking tour

Are you one of the 7 million people planning to visit Prague this year? Many visitors come, grab a beer, have a walk around, but don’t quite tap into what makes this city so special (hint: it’s not just the beer that makes Prague amazing!). Book one of our free walking tours of Prague, and you’ll walk away knowing more than most residents.

Why is a walking tour the best way to see Prague?

The truth is, Prague is a touristy city, and there are plenty of tours you can choose from. There are reasons why, in Prague in particular, a walking tour is your best choice.

For starters, a lot of the best parts of Prague are only accessible on foot. The streets are old and not built for heavy traffic: if you choose a tour on a bike or a bus then you’ll miss out on seeing up close the buildings, monuments, and smaller side streets that make a walking tour so unique.

How is Prague Pulse different from other walking tours?

There’s a reason we have over 2,500 five-star Google Reviews!

Not all free walking tours are the same. All of our guides are licensed native-level English speakers, living in Prague with over 5 years of guiding experience.

They don’t just tell you the facts. They’ll also tell you the stories. None of our guides read from a script, and every tour is shaped by the personal stories of the guides leading it. This means that no two tours are ever quite the same.

Will I see all the best sites on a Prague Pulse free walking tour?

In a word: yes! But the truth is that Prague is not a small city and there is so much to see. No single tour will give you ‘all of Prague’ in a few hours (don’t believe anyone who is selling you that!). If you’re limited, let me help you choose:

Many visitors do two tours in a single day, but you can also talk to your guide on the first tour to figure out which will best suit your schedule!

How does a free walking tour in Prague work?

A lot of companies (like ours!) run free tours, and it basically means the tour is tip-based. You don’t pay upfront – you pay at the end what you think the experience was worth.

The biggest question we get asked is ‘how much should I pay a Prague walking tour guide?’ And as a company, we find it really tough to answer. What I will say is that your guides are educated specialists with a knack not just for illuminating an insane amount of facts, but also for making it entertaining. You’ll likely learn double on a free tour of Prague what you would at a museum, so consider that ticket price at least comparable.
