Mel is such a wonderful tour guide! She has such deep knowledge about what it means to live in Prague, combined with great appreciation for the local culture and a good sense of humour! I had such a great time learning about the history and culture of Prague, and walking through Old Town and seeing some of the major landmarks in the city. It was an experience I'll never forget and will always cherish! I definitely wouldn't have been able to explore the city myself. If you want to explore Prague, I highly recommend Mel at Prague Pulse.

I had a great experience with two different tours, one of the castle and the other one of the old town centre and more. I extremely enjoyed both tours, the first being with Mel and the latter with Aris (awesome name already)! They both were knowledgeable and a lot of fun! Both tours worth every penny I paid and the time I spent with those tour guides!
Highly recommend 😄

Dylan was an exceptional guide on our Ivon walking tour of Prague old town and Jewish quarter. He provided knowledge, insight, humour and travel advice - 2.5 hours very well spent, so much so that we booked onto the afternoon castle tour with him straight after

Filip, our Tour Guide today, was exceptional! I was concerned initially with a group size of 30 but needn’t have been - Storytelling can be used haphazardly but Filip truely delivered! Fact, fiction and personal accounts made for a wonderful tour this morning. And yes , Filip is the Czech spelling of Phillip! Cannot recommend Filip and this insightful introduction tour to key areas of Prague highly enough … Deb & Mark AUS

We were so lucky to have Kathryn as our guide. She’s got the humour, the banter, and is one of my favourite storytellers ever, sharing her knowledge of Prague’s history and landmarks.

We don’t usually do tours but this was such an amazing experience, it’s changed our minds. Would 100% try and join Kathryn’s tours next time we’re in Prague.

We had an amazing experience learning about the history and culture of Prague from Anna. She is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We have only a day here in Prague, so it was appealing to try and learn and see as much as possible in a short period of time. Anna's tour didn't disappoint!

Took an Old Town and Jewish Quarter tour with Mike on our arrival day in Prague. He set us up with the bearing of the city historically and culturally. It was so interesting and even our day started at 3:30am to get to Prague from London, we were so mesmerised until the last minute. As Mike was so good, we took another tour of Castle with Anna and she as equally experienced and knowledgable. We got to see Prague and got to know the city much better. Thank you, Mike and Anna.

We had a great afternoon with Jeremy leading first to the tram and up the hill to the highest point in Prague to learn some history of the monastery, see the guard change and cathedral while winding our way thru over a thousand years of Bohemian history.
Great tour and fantastic city!

Traveling from the USA for first time to Prague! In 3 short days there we were able to have 2 tours with this amazing company! Mel hosted our tour of Old Town , etc. She was so unbelievably knowledgeable and presented the history in a fun and engaging way! We signed up for the food tour with Mike the next day! Incredible! He gave us so much history, details of the area and food and great personal insights of your beautiful city. This company is a definite must to capture the beauty, history and culinary wonder of Prague.

What a great stroll around Prague with Jeremy! He was super knowledgeable and engaging. We had about 25 people on the walking tour but he was always patient waiting for some to catch up. He adds a bit of humor as he tells the many interesting facts of one of the most charming cities in the world!

We did the Iconic Tour of Prague on September 15 with “Tall Paul”. 5-stars for sure! If you take a tour with Paul, ask him to take you to his favourite local pub after the tour - it was the best Czech food we had the whole week, the beer seemed better, and it was way cheaper than the food near the tourist trap areas. Thanks from Winnipeg!

I did the free walking tour covering Old Town, the Jewish Quarter, and ending at Charles Bridge, and it was easily one of the highlights of my trip to Prague. The guide was incredibly informative and engaging—he brought centuries of Czech history to life, from medieval times through communism and beyond. We also learned about the Jewish history of Prague and visited the Jewish Quarter which us now the most expensive street in Prague due to all the designer stores. You could tell he was passionate and knew his stuff, but also made it easy to follow and fun. And of course, Prague is unbelievably beautiful, so he had a great “office” to work with! Highly recommend if you want to learn and not just look.

My wife and I took the Old Town and Prague Castle tour with Mike, as well as the food tour with Ian and both were fantastic experiences! Mike and Ian were not only knowledgeable but also friendly and engaging. We had a wonderful time on both tours and would highly recommend joining any tour they lead.

The tour with Mike was amazing. His English is perfect and he is a very knowledgeable guide with a deep personal connection to the city and the history of the country, whilst also always funny and entertaining. Couldn't have wished for a better tour to get a first impression of the city and the group size was also pleasurably small, less than 10 people. Highly recommend!

We had only two days in Prague. We did the Iconic tour with Ian the first day, and the Prague Castle tour with Mike on the second day.
Both of our guides were really knowledgeable and entertaining, and we found out lots of things about the Czech Republic that we didn't know.
A highlight of Ian's tour was the astrological clock, and the history of Charles IV.
With Mike, we caught a tram (it's easy to do in Prague), saw the changing of the guard at Prague Castle, and had an interactive experience in the gardens.
We would definitely choose Prague Pulse tours first if we returned to Prague in the future.

Thank you Tall Paul and Jeremy for showing us Prague in such an entertaining, content rich and personal way. We had a fantastic on both Old Town and Castle Walk and we learned a lot about the city’s rich history, architecture and politics and of course: we can now shout „Charles the Fourth!!!“ if the situation demands it 😁 Highly recommend 🤘

We booked a tour with Ian today. It was a wonderful experience. Ian took us around by tram and walk. Ian guided us in the historical backdrop of Prague. He was humorous as well as informative. We were presented a kalidscopic view of history, architecture, art and politics of Prague in less than 3 hours. It was not only enjoyable but refreshing.

It was a no-brainer booking on this castle tour after experiencing their tour of the Old Town & Jewish Quarters...and so glad we did. Our guide was Aris, and he was excellent. His love & passion for the area shone through his delivery. Brought us to all the great spots and gave a detailed summary of the history bringing the buildings to life. Helps that he is also a wonderful, super helpful guy! A recommended must-do for anyone visiting the castle for the 1st time.

I had such a lovely day on both the tour of the old town with Mel and Castle with Jeremy. Both guides were very personable and willing to answer any question people in the group had. Definitely would recommend them as a first stop in the city. Generally, I also find walking tours are a great way to meet others if you're travelling solo.

I joined the Prague Castle walking tour with Mel as our guide, and she was absolutely fantastic. As a structural engineer, I was especially impressed by her deep knowledge of architectural styles and historical forms. She also shared many fascinating hidden stories and details about the buildings that you’d never discover on your own. On top of that, Mel is incredibly humorous and full of energy, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I’m truly grateful to her for leaving me with such a memorable highlight of my trip to Prague. I highly recommend taking this tour—especially before visiting the castle interior if you’ve booked tickets—as it gives you a much deeper appreciation for what you’re about to see.

Regards,

Mingchen from London

Absolutely loved the potted history of Czech Republic that our tour guide Mike gave us. He was very knowledgeable & passionate about his city and not only showed us some great sites, but gave us the history behind that sites importance. His punch line at the end explained his passion. Really appreciated this tour as a great way to see & hear about Prague.

I have been on several city tours in the past, but the two tours with Prague Pulse Tours are definitely among the best I have ever experienced! Here, you don't get a run-of-the-mill tour, but living history, great storytelling and genuine passion.

Tour 1: Prague's Iconic Free Tour – Old Town & Jewish Quarter (with Dylan)
The tour started at 10:30 a.m. – despite the large, international group, you never felt anonymous. Thanks to a short round of introductions, a personal atmosphere was created right from the start.
Our guide Dylan was a real highlight: humorous, historically well-informed and with a wonderfully ironic manner. The tour was full of exciting anecdotes and little stories – not a dull moment!

Tour 2: Classic Prague Castle Tour – Strahov Monastery & Castle District (with Jeremy)
This tour also started at 10:30 a.m. – again with a large group, but once more with a personal introduction.
Jeremy was the perfect storyteller: charming, knowledgeable and with great timing. He even got us to the castle in time for the changing of the guard at 12 noon! The tour lasted over three hours and was exciting and entertaining throughout – including lots of practical tips and background information.

Conclusion: If you really want to experience Prague, Prague Pulse Tours is the best choice. Highly recommended – I would book again anytime!

This was my first walking tour, and it was a phenomenal experience. Mike, our tour guide, was an excellent story teller and an orator. In 2.5 hours he was able to explain, in great detail, numerous interesting historical facts across various popular tourist locations in Prague. The manner in which he engaged our tour group, kept us eagerly waiting for the next piece of historical facts. The entire tour was interesting, educational and enjoyable, and the 2.5 hours seemed to just breeze by in an instant.

I would highly recommend this walking tour for any tourist who wants to visit Prague.
I wanted to share our experience with you regarding Ian on the castle tour yesterday.

He made it so worthwhile and was full of energy and enthusiasm for our group.

I would like to say we immensely enjoyed the tour although the weather was cold.

Ian is a very wonderful tour guide and we wanted to say thanks again to him.

Warm regards

Absolutely fantastic tour, Mike was a brilliant guide. I was slightly nervous about 2.5 hours but I was fully engaged the whole time. My only regret is going on the last day of our trip, I recommend making it the first day of your trip because Mike had so many recommendations for places I'd love to have time to go visit.

We did the city tour, and tall Paul was our guide. His ability to connect and communicate with the entire group was a testimony to his character and knowledge. Although American, he is a university graduate of history, and it showed. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and the information imparted during our time with Paul.
I would highly recommend you spare the time for a tour.

If you're visiting Prague and want a guide who is equal parts knowledgeable, engaging, and just plain fun, look no further than Mel! From the moment we met her, it was clear she had a deep love for this city—and after spending a day with her, we understand why.

Mel took us through the Jewish Quarter, Old Town, and New Town, weaving history, humor, and fascinating insights into every stop. Her storytelling makes the past come alive, and her recommendations (for food, sights, and hidden gems) were absolutely spot-on. Plus, she has a super handy Prague website full of tips, so you’re never left wondering where to go next.

And of course, no tour with Mel would be complete without hearing her favorite saying:
"Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws." – Franz Kafka
By the end of the tour, we felt those "sharp claws" pulling us in too!

Whether it’s your first time in Prague or your tenth, Mel is the guide you want. She doesn’t just show you the city—she makes you feel like you belong here. Highly recommend!

Would highly recommend the Prague Castle Tour - was so great getting to know the complex in a little bit deeper detail and figure out what we wanted to have a proper look at. It's a good way to avoid large crowds and also learn how to use public transport in Prague. Thank you to our amazing tour guide Anna! So entertaining and approachable, her passion for and love of Prague is contagious! Looking forward to potentially a tour of the Old Town next 🤩
Anna was amazing. So knowledgeable and a great storyteller. Best walking tour ever in beautiful Prague
Anna is so kind. Amazing city tour and goods explanations about the city and the astronomy clock.
The guide was amazing, she is called Anna, wonderful, knowledgeable, lovely woman. This was my second guided tour and really recommend them.
Had our castle tour with Aris today and I must say, it really was a great tour! Aris undoubtedly loves sharing all the interesting information about Prague as a city, historic events, the sights and the culture and you could sense his passion for all the little details. We were more than happy with the tour and can recommend it to anyone! Thank you Aris and all the best 🙂

Did the Prague Castle Tour with Mike and it was excellent and fun. It is very well done and covers so many aspects of Prague and its history.

Mike is a highly energetic guide and a very good storyteller. I saw the final minutes of another tour he gave the other day and decided to join his next tour the other day officially and did not regret it.
Andy was amazing and helpful. He really took his time to explain the history of the castle. He was very helpful in recommending us a great pub to eat as well

Highly recommend!
After the free walking tour through the old town, we booked the second tour to the castle straight away. We traveled with Mike and we really liked his humorous manner and his extensive knowledge of the city. We will always remember Prague fondly thanks to his insider information!

Had a lovely time doing the old town tour

Mel was very impressive of the flow of information and stories she was telling throughout the tour! Definitely recommend 👌🏻

FAQs about our Iconic Free Tour of Old Town

There is no compulsory payment upfront for a free tour. At the end of the tour, your guide asks you to place a value on your experience, and you get to decide what you think is a fair price. This ensures your guide will always give you the best tour possible.

You can pay with card! We also accept Czech Crowns and Euros (although we ask you to refrain from Euro coins as we cannot exchange them).

Our tours run in rain, wind, or shine. Please do come in adequate clothing, the tours are outside, and Prague can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer!

*In exceptionally extreme weather, we will let you know if the tour is cancelled.

Although you can technically see Prague Castle from many points on this tour, we do not go to the castle itself. This is the largest castle complex in the world, so it deserves the time and attention of its own tour!

(Check out our Castle Tour)

The free walking tour concept is designed for small group bookings. For the sake of our guides, we ask groups of 9+ to either book a private tour or to join our free tour with an upfront payment. This payment can be viewed as the minimum spend to pay the guide.

These rules are in place with all free tour companies.

Yes, everyone is welcome on the tours. Please be aware that Old Town’s cobbled streets are not the easiest for wheelchair users, but our guides will always help you where necessary.

Our guides will always remain at the meeting point for 5 minutes after the start time. After this, each guide takes a slightly different route and are not contactable during the tour. For this reason, we ask you to be at the meeting point on time or to please reschedule your tour for another time slot.

No, the synagogues are part of the Jewish Museum, a paid area we cannot enter during the tour. If you want to visit, we are happy to explain how to get a ticket for after the tour.

Why is an Old Town tour the best way to start your trip?

Much of Prague’s Old Town is pedestrianized, which is why you can see up close many things on foot that would be missed on a bus, bike, car, or boat tour.

This area is also the epicenter of Prague’s ancient history. On our Old Town tour, we cover what the city has seen throughout the ages. Learn about the famous kings that ruled, what Prague was like during times of war and prosperity, and even how to read the Astronomical Clock!

What is included in an Old Town Tour of Prague?

Let us talk you through where we go. Bear in mind that every tour guide has their own route, so your walk may very, but the same spots are hit every time. A bit more about what Prague’s Old Town tour includes:

  • Wenceslas Square
Our tour always starts by bringing you to one of the biggest and most stunning spots, to introduce how Prague became the city it is today.
  • Old Town Square
As the Týn Church looks over you, we’ll stand in the middle of the square for a 360 view of one of the most famous and photographed squares in the world. We’ll also, of course, tell you some monumental events that took place on the very spot where you stand.
Top tip: During Christmas and Easter, this is when the square becomes a literal marketplace again, so we’ll keep you a little distance from the crowds!
  • Astronomical Clock
Thousands of people see the clock everyday, but few of them ever learn of its significance or how to tell the time! People who live in the city tell us they never knew how to read the astronomical clock until they came on our Prague Old Town tour.
  • Jewish Quarter
Once a poor, segregated area, and now home to Prague’s most expensive real estate. The architectural beauty of this area is almost as astounding as its past.
  • Charles Bridge
Pulse’s Prague Old Town tour comes to an end at perhaps Prague’s most famous landmark. The bridge across which thousands of feet cross daily. Although we don’t go onto the bridge, we tell you of its maker and its making, as well as tips for best times to cross for a good photo opportunity.

Of course, there’s a lot more, but as storytellers we prefer to tell you face to face 😉

What route does the Prague Old Town tour take?

Prague Pulse’s meeting point for this Old Town free walking tour is very close to Wenceslas Square, where your enthralling history lesson/sightseeing begins.

Your guide will then take you through different streets of the Old Town – some of the most trodden paths and other small hidden gems of alleys to escape the masses. On the first half of the tour you’ll see the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square. There will be a 15-minute break near our favourite coffee spot (also important for bathrooms and snacks!). The second half of the tour takes you further north to the Jewish Quarter, with a few cultural stops along the way. Then the tour makes its final stops along the picturesque river, where you’ll get a panoramic view of Prague Castle and Charles Bridge.

As our most popular tour, we have a lot of guides who run it and each of them comes with their own style and direction. And by direction, we mean literally! All of our guides hit the same spots, some of them just switch up the order – so, take the above route as a rough example.

How long is the Prague Old Town tour?

Our Prague Old Town tour runs for 2.5 hours, which includes a break for refreshments and bathrooms.

  • Prague Pulse Iconic Free Tour runs three times a day: 10.30 am, 12 pm, 2 pm.
