Why choose the Free Tour of Nazis & Communism: How Prague Survived?
This isn’t another history lecture. It’s the raw, real stories of how Prague survived its darkest century and came out stronger. From Nazi occupation to communist control to the revolution that changed everything, you’ll walk the streets where ordinary Czechs made extraordinary choices.
This tour is for you if:
– You’re fascinated by WWII resistance movements and Cold War history
– You want to understand how totalitarianism actually worked—and failed
– You believe the best stories come from real people, not textbooks

What people are saying about us...
Highly recommend 😄
We don’t usually do tours but this was such an amazing experience, it’s changed our minds. Would 100% try and join Kathryn’s tours next time we’re in Prague.

Great tour and fantastic city!

Both of our guides were really knowledgeable and entertaining, and we found out lots of things about the Czech Republic that we didn't know.
A highlight of Ian's tour was the astrological clock, and the history of Charles IV.
With Mike, we caught a tram (it's easy to do in Prague), saw the changing of the guard at Prague Castle, and had an interactive experience in the gardens.
We would definitely choose Prague Pulse tours first if we returned to Prague in the future.

Tour 1: Prague's Iconic Free Tour – Old Town & Jewish Quarter (with Dylan)
The tour started at 10:30 a.m. – despite the large, international group, you never felt anonymous. Thanks to a short round of introductions, a personal atmosphere was created right from the start.
Our guide Dylan was a real highlight: humorous, historically well-informed and with a wonderfully ironic manner. The tour was full of exciting anecdotes and little stories – not a dull moment!
Tour 2: Classic Prague Castle Tour – Strahov Monastery & Castle District (with Jeremy)
This tour also started at 10:30 a.m. – again with a large group, but once more with a personal introduction.
Jeremy was the perfect storyteller: charming, knowledgeable and with great timing. He even got us to the castle in time for the changing of the guard at 12 noon! The tour lasted over three hours and was exciting and entertaining throughout – including lots of practical tips and background information.
Conclusion: If you really want to experience Prague, Prague Pulse Tours is the best choice. Highly recommended – I would book again anytime!
I would highly recommend this walking tour for any tourist who wants to visit Prague.
He made it so worthwhile and was full of energy and enthusiasm for our group.
I would like to say we immensely enjoyed the tour although the weather was cold.
Ian is a very wonderful tour guide and we wanted to say thanks again to him.
Warm regards
Michelle from Glasgow Scotland 🏴

The tour overall was informative, well structured and interesting. The Old Town tour took about 2.5 hrs incl. a short break. Thanks
Highest recommendation! Great city to visit and a great walking tour experience!

I would highly recommend you spare the time for a tour.
Mel took us through the Jewish Quarter, Old Town, and New Town, weaving history, humor, and fascinating insights into every stop. Her storytelling makes the past come alive, and her recommendations (for food, sights, and hidden gems) were absolutely spot-on. Plus, she has a super handy Prague website full of tips, so you’re never left wondering where to go next.
And of course, no tour with Mel would be complete without hearing her favorite saying:
"Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws." – Franz Kafka
By the end of the tour, we felt those "sharp claws" pulling us in too!
Whether it’s your first time in Prague or your tenth, Mel is the guide you want. She doesn’t just show you the city—she makes you feel like you belong here. Highly recommend!

Mike is a highly energetic guide and a very good storyteller. I saw the final minutes of another tour he gave the other day and decided to join his next tour the other day officially and did not regret it.

Highly recommend!

Mel was very impressive of the flow of information and stories she was telling throughout the tour! Definitely recommend 👌🏻

FAQs about this Prague free tour
What is a free tour?
There is no compulsory payment upfront for a free tour. At the end of the tour, your guide asks you to place a value on your experience, and you get to decide what you think is a fair price. This ensures your guide will always give you the best tour possible.
What forms of payment do we accept?
You can pay with card! We also accept Czech Crowns and Euros (although we ask you to refrain from Euro coins, as we are not able to exchange them).
Will the weather affect the tour?
Our tours run in rain, wind, or shine. If the tour is cancelled due to exceptional extreme weather, we will let you know. Please do come in adequate clothing, the tours are outside, and Prague can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer!
Do I really need a ticket for the tram?
Yes, controllers often check tickets on trams. Don’t worry – tickets are very affordable, and we will help you purchase.
Are strollers, wheelchairs, or pets allowed on the tour?
Yes, everyone is welcome on the tours. For this tour, however, you will need to bring a muzzle for your dog, Dogs ride trams for free but must be muzzled.
Prague is not the easiest city for wheelchair users, but our guides will always help you where necessary.
Can I join the tour after the start time?
Our guides will always remain at the meeting point for 5 minutes after the start time. After this, each guide takes a slightly different route and are not contactable during the tour. For this reason, we ask you to be at the meeting point on time or to please reschedule your tour for another time slot.
Why am I being charged for a free tour when I book for 9+ people?
The free walking tour concept is designed for small group bookings. For the sake of our guides, we ask groups of 9+ to either book a private tour or to join our free tour with an upfront payment. This payment can be viewed as the minimum spend to pay the guide.
These rules are in place with all free tour companies.
Where can I get a tram ticket?
You can get the ticket from the app PID Litacka or at any metro station. For this trip, you only need a 30-minute ticket. If you cannot buy a ticket prior to the tour, please come to the meeting point early so the guide can explain it to you in person.
What Makes This Tour Different
Forget dry political timelines. You’ll hear first-hand accounts passed down: the factory workers who sabotaged Nazi weapons, the artists who mocked the regime, the civilians who were punished for religion, resistance, and rebellion.
Key stories told in this tour
The Nazi Occupation (1939-1945) Learn about where and why Prague was bombed, as well as how Czechs secretly resisted the Nazis.
The Heydrich Assassination Plot See the bullet-riddled crypt where Czech paratroopers made their final stand against the Nazis after assassinating Hitler’s most brutal leader.
Communist Czechoslovakia (1948-1989) Understand how communism really started, about religious persecution, show trials and acts of resistance. Learn about what daily life was truly like behind the iron curtain and why hope didn’t die.
The Velvet Revolution Visit Wenceslas Square, where hundreds of thousands gathered to demand freedom and won without firing a single shot. Václav Havel went from playwright to president, bringing down a regime that had its hold on the Czech Republic for decades.
